The American Red Cross relies on volunteers to help us with our mission of providing care and comfort to those in need. All American Red Cross volunteers must complete both Basic Orientation Training and Introduction to Disaster Services. All disaster training is free. Introduction to Disaster Services

Content:   Open to anyone interested in volunteering in Disaster Services. Students learn the mission and principals of the American Red Cross and how they can be involved in the delivery of service. Students also learn fundamental information about disasters, the community response, and the role of Red Cross Disaster Services. This class is the prerequisite for future disaster training courses.

Disaster Health Services: An Overview

Content:   Open to current disaster volunteers. The purpose of this training is to provide basic information about the activities of the Disaster Health Services (DHS) function of the American Red Cross. Participants will learn more about what various knowledge, skills, and abilities are needed by Disaster Health Services staff as well as how they can get involved in their local chapter. Individuals with R.N. background are encouraged to participate in the Disaster Health Service function.

Disaster Mental Health Services: An Overview

Family Services: Providing Emergency Assistance

The class provides instruction in conducting interviews, home visits, performing casework and assisting individuals affected by disasters and how to effectively meet their emergency needs directly. This course will familiarize on responding to local and national responses.

Logistics Overview

Content:   Open to all current disaster volunteers. This training assists Red Cross disaster workers preparing for and carrying out the logistics function in the event of a disaster in the local community, and to initiate the Logistics function on a major disaster operation. The course is designed to help participants identify supply procurement and logistics preparedness measures that should take place at the local unit level, and to become familiar with the Red Cross policies and procedures that apply on loy administered disaster operations. Volunteers learn about local opportunities and projects available.

ERVs: Ready, Set, Roll

Content:   Open to all current disaster volunteers. This course is designed to acquaint Disaster Relief Workers with all aspects of emergency response vehicles. Topics include communications, accelerating, decelerating, backing up, vehicle maneuvering, and familiarity with supply inventory and use of the appliances. Mod I: classroom. Mod II: field activity.
Prereqs:   Introduction to Disaster Services, Mass Care, valid drivers’ license, DMV report, & Defensive Driving Certificate, First Aid/CPR Certification.
